Welcome to the Salt Museum, Northwich

Salt has been produced in Cheshire for over 2,000 years and it is the only place in Britain where it is still produced on a large scale.

There has been a Salt Museum in Northwich for over 100 years.

More than just salt!  The museum is housed within the old Northwich Union Workhouse building and has displays about the building's history as a home for Victorian paupers.  There are also displays of local history and archaeology, special exhibitions, a vibrant programme of events and children's quizzes and activities.  So there's something to fascinate everyone.
