Students and local history researchers are welcome to make use of a wide range of resource material by appointment.
Library: The Museum library contains books and articles on the local history of the area, the Salt industry in Cheshire and elsewhere in the UK. There are also books relating to museums and the Museums Journal, published by the Museums Association.

Photographic collection: The Salt Museum has a photographic archive of over 5,000 images. These range from photographs of local people, the Salt industry, subsidence in Northwich and other local scenes.

Salt Collection: As well as the collections on display, there are also collections in storage. The Salt Collection relates to the Salt industry and the history and use of salt. The collection consists of a wide variety of material including tools, equipment, salt samples and packaging, ceramics, clothing, prints, books and art works.
