and talks by The Friends of the Salt Museum | Cinema
There
is an exciting programme of events at the Salt Museum, throughout
the
year. There are lots of holiday craft activities to keep you busy this
year. Many are connected with our temporary exhibitions so you can
get
inspirations for your crafts from the displays. Workshops cost £1.15
per child and this includes a free look around the main museum displays.
(Adults wanting to look around afterwards cost £2.25) You can
drop into any workshop between 10am and 4pm unless stated otherwise.
Holiday
events
Looking
for something to do with your children or grandchildren during the
holidays? Look no further - we have a variety of special
activities
taking place and they are included in your museum admission price.
You may wish to buy a season ticket and take advantage of all of
them or just pop in one day. The workshops run from 10am to 4pm
on Wednesdays and Thursdays and usually take 45 minutes to an hour
to
complete. Drop in any time you like between those times. Children
must be accompanied by an adult.
February half-term activities

10th century Cheshire
See a hoard of Viking silver recently
discovered in Cheshire, meet a real archaeologist, strike a Saxon penny,
try on helmets and much more.

Viking Treasure
Witness a Viking chief being buried with a hoard of treasure, then
make your own pieces of treasure to take away based upon the Huxley
hoard on special display in the museum this month.

a Picture!
Get yourself dressed in some period costume, take a photo
and make a frame to display it in.

Hunt the headwear
in the museum’s displays and make your own fantastic crown to
take away.

Open weekend
To celebrate ‘Museums & Galleries Month’, we are throwing
open all the doors of the museum. This will be a good opportunity to
learn more about the Salt Museum as visitors will be able to go behind-the-scenes.
You’ll be able to have a nose around some of the stores, admire
the Board of Guardian’s meeting room and chat to some of the
staff. There will also be outdoor activities relating to our farming
exhibition. Free admission to the museum on both days! Open 10am-5pm
on Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday

Moving Pictures
Join
in with the museum’s Regalette cinema mini film festival and
make an old fashioned
flicker book, any time between 10am -4pm and watch classic children’s films showing at 10.30 and 2pm.

of Guardians meeting room is open at weekends and during school holidays.
All the above events are included as part of the usual admission prices.
Free to season ticket holders and members of the Friends.

Wednesday 7 November - 7 for 7.30pm - Mrs Gaskell's Cheshire
An
illustrated talk about renowned Victorian novelist Elizabeth Gaskell's
connections with the county. Presented by Joan Leach MBE, historian
and Hon. Secretary of the Gaskell Society. Tickets £2, including
tea/coffee. Free to Friends of the Salt Museum
Wednesday 9 January 2008, 2.30pm - Exhibition Tour
A free and informal
tour of the Cheshire Writers exhibition before it finally closes its
run at the Salt Museum. Led by Community & Education Officer -
Tom Hughes.
Don’t
forget our workhouse display in the Board of Guardians meeting room
is open at weekends and during school holidays.
The special
events are included in the admission price and you can drop into the
workshop / event at any point between the times stated.

and a talk
Join

informal talk on a range of local topics.

Film
shows in ‘The Regalette’ mini cinema:
Why not come along to one of our film nights? Our mini cinema, which has a capacity
of 43, has been nicknamed ‘The Regalette’ as it was refurbished with
seats from the recently closed Regal Cinema. We have modern projection and sound
equipment so if you fancy seeing films in unique surroundings then give us call.
We hope to put together a diverse programme of recently released films, old classics
and films relating to the local area. Book now to avoid disappointment!

Mini Film Festival’
We celebrate the first birthday of our mini cinema with a mini film
festival! Daily performances at 10.30am, 2pm and an evening show at
